About the Artist
Hi there! my name is Liz! I’m a Korean-Canadian artist and art instructor based in Calgary, AB.
Born in Seoul, South Korea in 2000, little Liz started drawing ever since she could hold up a pencil. Her interest became her passion when she immigrated to Canada with her family at age 8. She came to Canada, not knowing how to speak English, and the art class was a place she could communicate freely without a language barrier and make connections with her classmates and teachers. Art was a tool for communication, and she understood that from very early on that Art is a form of communication that can break through any language barrier, with no misunderstanding.
Living in-between two cultures, there were times when Liz felt like she belonged in neither cultures, and felt stuck in-between. Exploring themes of liminality, the in-between space, and her cultural identity, she attempts to make a sanctuary and creates a place of in-between where two cultural world collide and forms a space of escape.
in high school, when it was time to decide on her post-secondary education, Fine Arts was a non negotiable primary option.
I graduated from Alberta University of the Arts with a bachelor of Fine Arts, and am currently working as an instructor at the Sixth Dimension Art Studio, and Calgary Korean School. I feel the happiest when I’m creating and painting, and love my jobs that each fulfills me in different ways.
other than art and teaching, in my free time, I love to read, cook, and spend time with my family and friends. My favourite season is spring and autumn, and favourite color is pink, purple, and blue.
I love what I do, and feel incredibly blessed and grateful that my job is to bring joy to my clients and students through art.
